The Idaho Fine Arts Academy will soon have a new home.

On Thursday morning, West Ada trustees approved the sale of the performing arts school building (located at 3467 W Flint Drive in Eagle) to Performance Charter School Development LLC. The purchase was for $4.8 million. The closing date is set for Aug. 16.

According to district spokeswoman Char Jackson, the money received from the sale will go towards completing phase one of the new Idaho Fine Arts Academy building, which is under construction directly west of the school district office. The new facility will be about 10 miles from the current school and is planned to open in January. Idaho Fine Arts Academy students will remain in their current facility until the new building is completed.

The meeting of the board was held at Meridian City Hall and was held before a planned board summit. Trustee Rusty Coffelt made the motion to approve the sale. The vote was unanimous.

Patrons of the school were notified of the pending sale in June, but have known about the planned new facility for some time, Principal Christian Housel said. Idaho Fine Arts Academy enrolls just under 200 students.

While it is based in Texas, Performance Charter School Development has a Boise office, as well as one in Arizona. Doral Academy of Idaho, which is based in Meridian, is listed in its portfolio page.

Jackson said West Ada has done two appraisals of the building but did not receive any offers on it. This past year, West Ada had a commercial real estate firm assist with the sale process. The offer from Performance Charter School Development was made in March.
