There’s a lot of education news happening across the state, from a national EMT championship to grants for schools and other community organizations.

Here’s a closer look at news from around Idaho.

Education grants awarded 

The Idaho Community Foundation has awarded nearly $1 million in grants through two separate funds.

The money will go toward dozens of nonprofits, schools and community organizations across the state, focusing on education. The two grant programs are the Idaho Future Fund and the Gladys E. Langroise Advised Fund.

Boise updates website

Boise School District launched a new website platform Monday. It will include the general information on the district and its more than 50 schools, including enrollment information, school calendars and more.

Benefits include a mobile-friendly design, improved search functionality and consistent branding and user experience.

Public affairs administrator Dan Hollar said the resources serve as a vital connection between the schools and community.

“By providing a more consistent and reliable digital experience across all district and school websites, we can better support students, families, staff and community members as they access information and connect with our schools,” Hollar said.

Potandon Produce pays school lunch balances

The Idaho Falls-based company donated money to pay off lunch balances at Blackfoot Heritage Sixth Grade through its giving committee.

On Facebook, the school thanked the company’s sales associate, T.J. Christenson, who presented the check.

“Acts of generosity like this make a meaningful difference in our community and remind us of the power of people helping people,” the school wrote in its Facebook post.

EMT team captures national championship

Isaac Giesbrecht and Gage Staples, students from Portneuf Valley Technical Education and Career Campus. captured the gold medal in a national EMT competition.

Both students competed against 27 other high school EMT teams across the nation. Contestants took a written exam and participated in hands-on assessments, including three additional emergency scenarios in the final competition.

TVCC names teacher of the year

Treasure Valley Community College announced Wednesday that natural resources instructor Marcus Nichols won its 2025-26 Teacher of the Year award. The Eastern Illinois University alum has spent 18 years with the college. He is known for his hands-on lab assignments and experiential learning.

“I was really surprised and honored to receive this recognition, and it means a lot to be recognized by the students,” Nichols said in a news release. “Teaching at TVCC provides me with the opportunity and privilege to positively influence young people and help shape their careers.”

Transportation Train the Trainer Conference

Register for the third annual Transportation Train the Trainer Conference, which takes place from July 20 to 22.

The conference delivers insight on innovative practices and problem solving for more efficient student transportation across the state. There will be several keynote speakers during this three-day workshop at Riverside Hotel in Boise.
