A recall election is in the works, targeting Blaine County school trustee Liz Corker.

Hailey resident and retired teacher Darlene Dyer filed the preliminary paperwork with Blaine County elections officials on Jan. 25, Idaho Mountain Express reported last week.

With this paperwork in place, Dyer and her group will need to collect 489 signatures in order to get a recall election on the ballot.

Organizers list several grievances with Corker — including her failure to support Superintendent GwenCarol Holmes and her use of her elected position to promote “self-serving agendas.” Corker declined comment to Idaho Mountain Express.

West Ada recall update. In other recall news, an attorney for two West Ada trustees is challenging a recent petition drive.

Former state Supreme Court Justice Robert Huntley is seeking a restraining order, challenging the petitions filed against trustees Russell Joki, Carol Sayles and Julie Madsen and board chair Tina Dean. Huntley is representing Joki and Sayles.

In Friday’s court filing, Huntley argues that recall organizers fell short of the signatures needed to place the recalls on the ballot. He argues that the signature requirements should not be based on the last trustees’ elections — but instead on the November district supplemental levy. Turnout was higher for the levy election, and Huntley says those more recent numbers should apply to the recall process.

If the recall election survives the court challenge, and Ada County elections officials determine that the signature gathering met state laws, the recalls could appear on the May 17 ballot.
