Less paperwork and more learning is the goal of a new agreement between North Idaho College and Lewis-Clark State College that allows students to enroll at both schools simultaneously.
The agreement creates a “seamless” transition for students to earn an associate degree at NIC and then complete a bachelor’s degree at LC State, according to a news release from both schools Thursday evening.
“LC State and NIC have worked together for more than 40 years to seamlessly meet North Idaho’s education needs,” LC State President Cynthia Pemberton said in the statement. “This agreement will help us further enhance collaboration, efficiencies, and, ultimately, service for students.”
LC State has offered bachelor’s degrees in Coeur d’Alene since 1982, as part of an ongoing partnership with NIC.
The colleges also worked together to create a healthcare pipeline, and the new agreement will simplify the transition for students pursuing those degrees. The agreement also provides additional resources to students, like library and advising services, at both colleges.
“We’re here to provide the best possible education and offer flexible options for students in our community,” NIC President Nick Swayne said. “This partnership gives students another way to build on the education they receive at NIC and continue toward a bachelor’s degree while balancing work, family and other responsibilities.”
Students who complete an associate degree at NIC will be considered to have met all general education core requirements at LC State, except for degree-specific courses.
A financial aid consortium agreement was also announced Thursday. Tuition will be determined by the college offering the courses students take. The same residency pricing will apply to dual- and single-enrollment students.
Jennifer White, executive director of the Idaho State Board of Education, said in a news release she supports how the move serves students.
“By creating clearer pathways between institutions and making it easier for students to continue their education, Lewis-Clark State College and North Idaho College are expanding opportunities for Idahoans while helping meet the workforce needs of the region and our state,” White said.
