A new facility will expand the Treasure Valley Community College’s career-technical education offerings, aiming to fill a demand in renewable energy jobs.

The Advanced Energy and Trades Center in Ontario, Ore., will have lab and instructional spaces and “hands-on learning environments” to prepare students for energy trades.

TVCC purchased the building in January with funds from the Oregon Higher Education Coordinating Commission.

The building will house two new Associate of Science degrees: Advanced Energy Systems and Facilities Maintenance Specialist, which the college introduced earlier this year.

PacifiCorp, a Portland-based electrical energy company, has 58 job openings on its website, including hydroelectric power plant operators.
