A former chief deputy attorney general — and longtime Statehouse fixture — will head the University of Idaho’s law school.
The U of I Friday named Brian Kane as its new law school dean. Kane will oversee the law school’s Moscow and Boise campuses, which serve a total of 502 students. His first day will be July 31.
Kane served for 20 years as former Attorney General Lawrence Wasden’s chief deputy. After Attorney General Raúl Labrador defeated Wasden in the 2022 Republican primary, Kane took a post as CEO and executive director of the National Association of Attorneys General. He has been an adjunct faculty member at the U of I law school since 2017.
“We believe Brian’s professional experience will benefit the College of Law and expand the relationships and connections that make studying law at University of Idaho so valuable,” U of I provost and executive vice president Torrey Lawrence said in a news release.
Kane is a Vandal alum; he received a bachelor’s degree in history and political science from the U of I, and served as student body president. He received his law degree from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon, and served four years in the U.S. Army.
Kane has also been involved with Idahoans for Openness in Government, a nonprofit that hosts statewide workshops on state public records and open meeting laws.
