Debate season in the state superintendent’s race took another turn Tuesday.
Idaho News 6 announced that it will host and livestream a debate featuring the three candidates for superintendent: Republican incumbent Debbie Critchfield, Democrat Becky Sundin Mitchell and Constitution Party candidate Teresa Roundy.
The debate is scheduled for 7 p.m. Monday and will be available here.
The Idaho News 6 announcement comes two weeks after Idaho Education News and The College of Idaho hosted a debate between Critchfield and Sundin Mitchell (click here to watch our debate in full). It also comes less than a week after Critchfield backed out of a debate, scheduled by KTVB.
Critchfield said she reneged the KTVB debate because Roundy was not included on the panel. Roundy, who has spent no money on her campaign, did not meet fundraising thresholds to qualify for the EdNews-C of I debate or KTVB’s scheduled debate.
In a story announcing its debate, Idaho News 6 says one of its journalists will moderate, and its reporters will be on the debate panel. “Candidates will have equal speaking time and timed responses.”
