Rural arts grants are now available

Rural students could have access to new arts programs, through a round of state grants.

Rural schools can seek grants of up to $15,000 for fine arts, performing arts and design courses.

The schools can use their grants to purchase curriculum materials, equipment, and supplies for arts courses. Schools cannot use the grants for personnel or training.

The grant period runs from July 1 through June 30, 2024.

The Idaho Commission on the Arts administers the grant program on behalf of the State Board of Education.

Funding for the grants comes from the state general fund budget. A State Board budget bill contains a $1 million line item for the arts grants; the budget narrowly passed the House in the waning days of the 2023 session.

The application window opened on Friday. Schools can apply for grants through April 28.
