The Boise State University campus near Albertsons Stadium could get a major makeover.

The cost of the “east campus project” is unknown — and the scope is unclear. But the mix could include “hotel, conference, event, retail, dining, housing and parking options,” Boise State President David Hahn said Friday.

Hahn said the changing landscape of college athletics is driving the possible redevelopment east of Albertsons Stadium.

“Universities across the country are pursuing large-scale developments to generate new resources and remain competitive in uncharted waters,” Hahn said in an email to the campus community. “Boise State is no exception. What distinguishes our approach is its broader ambition: This east campus project is intended to support athletics and strengthen the entire university.”

The redevelopment, he said, could create “sustainable revenue” that could also support Boise State academics.

The first step will involve hiring a development advisor for the project. Boise State will release a request for proposals, or RFP, for this hire, Hahn said Friday.
