The teacher who died in a school shooting at a Bend, Oregon, elementary school was a Boise State University alum.

Megan Lambert

Megan Lambert, 25, grew up in Bend and graduated from Boise State in May 2023, according to a statement written by her family. (Click here to hear the statement in full, as posted by ABC News.)

Four people died in the Thursday shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School: a 5-year-old kindergartner, Rhoam Summer; two boys, ages 8 and 11, who have not been publicly named; and Lambert. The suspect in the shooting, 16-year-old Griffin John II, is a former Silver Rail student; John was shot and killed by a parent.

Silver Rail was Lambert’s first teaching job, the family said in its statement.

“She loved Silver Rail,” the family said. “This was her dream job.”

Lambert joined Bend schools this fall as a special education teacher.

“Megan was a bright light for her students, family, and our community,” school officials said in a message to the Silver Rail community. “She will be missed beyond words can express.”
