Treasure Valley Community College officials cut the ribbon on a new 30,000-square-foot nursing and health professions facility Thursday.
The Evelyn S. Dame Nursing and Allied Health Professions Center will house the college’s new Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree program, which will launch Sept. 28 with a cohort of five students.
Forty-six students attend the Ontario, Oregon-based community college’s two-year nursing program. The expansion could help increase enrollment to 80 students and boost pathways to registered nursing jobs, which are in short supply in Idaho and Oregon, officials say.
Funds for the $14.6 million facility came from a patchwork of sources, including a federal grant and donations from the Dame family and the college’s foundation, spokesman Justin Emerson told EdNews.
TVCC offers around a dozen health profession certificates or degrees, from emergency medical service to certified phlebotomy technician.
Nursing is one of TVCC’s legacy programs. Its current nursing building opened in 1963.
