The College of Eastern Idaho will offer programming in math, artificial intelligence, nuclear energy and engineering to draw high school students to STEM careers through a new partnership with Battelle Energy Alliance (BEA).
The BEA Applied STEM Institute will open this fall. The college will release more details about the programs beginning in September, including registration information, in August.
“The BEA Applied STEM Institute will leverage INL’s leadership in nuclear energy, integrated energy systems and national security as it develops programming and curriculum,” according to a CEI press release about new institute.
BEA operates the Idaho National Laboratory, which is headquartered in Idaho Falls, where CEI is located. The contractor hopes to draw students into the college’s engineering and nuclear programs and to jobs at the laboratory.
The Battelle Energy Alliance Future Tech Building will house the institute. The college invites the community to a ribbon-cutting ceremony and public tours of the new building at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 13.
