Vallivue bond issue withstands recount

It’s official: the Vallivue School District bond issue has passed.

Canyon County elections officials completed a recount Tuesday morning — a week after voters went to the polls. The numbers didn’t change at all: 1,615 voters endorsed the bond issue, while 806 voters opposed it.

The bond issue needed a two-thirds supermajority to pass, meaning the proposal passed by only two votes.

The growing district will use the $65.3 million to alleviate crowding at its middle schools. With two middle schools over or close to capacity, Vallivue says it needs a third middle school, while 48-year-old Vallivue Middle School needs $10 million in renovations.

Vallivue’s bond issue was the largest measure on the ballot last week, as 48 Idaho school districts sought bond issues or levies. Click here for the full election results.
