One College of Western Idaho trustee is running for a second office.
Meanwhile, the state’s largest community college has a newly appointed trustee.
Molly Lenty — who is in the middle of her second term on the volunteer CWI board — on Tuesday announced that she will seek the open Garden City mayor’s post. Longtime Mayor John Evans is not seeking re-election.
The chief operating officer of a Boise software company, Lenty was first elected to the CWI board in 2018 and was re-elected in 2022. She represents CWI’s trustee Zone 2, which takes in Garden City and portions of Boise. Lenty also serves as vice chair of Idaho Business for Education.
The nonpartisan mayor’s race will be held on Nov. 4.
State law would allow Lenty to remain on the CWI board if she is elected mayor. Lenty’s campaign said she would weigh her options if she is elected mayor.
Last week, CWI appointed David Bishop to the board. He will represent Zone 4, which includes parts of Meridian and Boise.
Bishop is executive director of Emergency Medicine of Idaho, and his volunteer service includes roles with the South Meridian YMCA and the St. Luke’s Children’s Advisory Board.
“As a lifelong advocate for education, community service, and healthcare leadership, I am inspired by CWI’s mission to empower students and strengthen our region through accessible, high-quality education,” Bishop said in a news release.
Bishop succeeds Gary Smith, who is moving out of Zone 4.
CWI’s Zone 2 and Zone 4 trustee seats will be on the ballot in 2026.
