The youth-led group BABE VOTE will host a Boise school board candidates’ forum next week.

The Aug. 25 forum will take place one week before the Sept. 1 Boise trustee elections. The forum is slated for 6:30 to 8 p.m., at the Boise High School auditorium.

Participants will include the two candidates running for Boise’s one open school board seat: Andy Hawes and Kirt Naylor. BABE VOTE has also invited two incumbent trustees running unopposed on Sept. 1: Alejandro Necochea and Krista Hasler. Necochea has committed to the forum.

“Since students are the primary stakeholders in our education, we wanted to provide our classmates and the community the opportunity to hear from people who may be making decisions that affect us,” said Mona Schwartz, a Boise High School junior and BABE VOTE board member. “We are excited to hear from all the candidates.”

BABE VOTE is a nonpartisan Boise nonprofit, focused on encouraging young people to participate in the political process.

Idaho Education News reporter Kevin Richert will moderate the forum.
