Idaho State is the first public university in the state to offer the three-year Bachelor of Applied Sciences degrees, which shave a year off the traditional path to a bachelor’s.

The three programs will begin this fall, with a blend of in-person and lab instruction and online classes.

“These degrees create greater opportunities for career advancement and help students move more quickly into meaningful employment,” said Jerry Anhorn, dean of Idaho State’s College of Technology.

Here’s a rundown of the three-year BAS programs:

  • Law Enforcement Management and Leadership, which is designed to prepare students for administrative positions in law enforcement and public service.
  • Applied Business and Professional Sales, designed to address growing needs in the business-to-business sector.
  • Intelligent and Trustworthy Digital Systems, focused on the growing demand for expertise in artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and digital systems management.

“The programs were developed in collaboration with industry partners to address workforce challenges impacting Idaho,” according to a recent Idaho State news release on the programs. “By combining technical education with leadership, communication, and applied management skills, the degrees are designed to prepare graduates for advancement opportunities in high-demand industries.”

The Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities has accredited all three programs.
