Applications are open for families to enter an enrollment lottery for about 370 seats across grades K-9 at Gem Prep’s new Idaho Falls campus, which opens this fall.

The application window is open through Feb. 25, with the lottery drawing on Feb. 26, according to a newsletter from the school.

Gem Prep is a network of college preparatory charter schools, both in-person and online, throughout Idaho. The charter operates brick-and-mortar schools in Meridian, Nampa, Pocatello and Twin Falls – the Idaho Falls campus will be Gem Prep’s seventh location.

“Ever since the Meridian campuses opened in 2017, interest has surged,” said principal Gerald Love, who opened the charter’s first brick-and-mortar in Pocatello in 2014.

Gem Prep’s network is growing – an eighth location is already on the way, with Gem Prep: Rexburg scheduled to open for the fall of 2027.

The Idaho Falls school’s physical building is under construction. Builders are installing windows and doors, according to a recent update from the school.

Gem Prep: Idaho Falls was planned to open in the city of Ammon, which borders Idaho Falls, in 2025. Patron concerns about the location led Gem Prep to sell that property and acquire land in Idaho Falls’ city limits.

Families curious about Gem Prep: Idaho Falls can attend an in-person information session on Jan. 28, or an online info session on Feb. 10.
