Fulcher: Lawmakers didn’t address Core

The state health insurance exchange remains the main talking point in state Sen. Russell Fulcher’s possible run against Gov. Butch Otter.

But here’s an odd comment from a Pocatello stop in Fulcher’s statewide exploratory “listening tour.” Fulcher, R-Meridian, suggested the Legislature did not look at the state’s new Common Core standards.

From an Idaho State Journal article: “(Fulcher) said the new standard had not yet been addressed in the Legislature.”

As the article notes, the Legislature did approve administrative rules that established the Idaho Core Standards. The rule passed the House and Senate education committees in January 2011. Fulcher was on the Senate Education Committee at the time, and that remains one of his committee assignments.
