Idaho Children Are Primary Inc (ICAP), is an organization led by a group of child-care experts with the common goal of advocating for the well-being of children and families in the state of Idaho.
Our Board is a non-partisan group of policy makers, business leaders, educators, physicians and parents. Despite our different backgrounds and agendas, we all have the same goal in mind when it comes to policy and law: bringing the welfare of Idaho children to the forefront.
We are writing to voice our strong support for Idaho State Rep. Lori McCann representing House Seat 6A. As advocates for public education, we believe Rep. McCann represents the kind of principled, thoughtful leadership our state urgently needs.
She has stood firm against efforts to divert public dollars to private schools, voting to protect our public schools. She has consistently called for fair school funding based on enrollment rather than attendance, a change that would benefit rural districts across Latah, Lewis, and Nez Perce counties.
Rep. McCann also understands that public education is not a partisan issue. Her deep roots in teaching, including her own career in education and being the daughter of two public school teachers, inform her strong advocacy for better teacher pay, classroom resources, mental health support for students, and updated school facilities. Everyone in Idaho wants these same things for their families.
In a political climate where educators are often disrespected and devalued, Rep. McCann has been a rare and courageous voice defending their vital role in our communities. She’s proven that being conservative and supporting strong public education are not mutually exclusive.
Her voting record clearly reflects a commitment to fiscal conservatism—a fact supported by her legislative history. While detractors may point to isolated votes, the bigger picture speaks for itself. It’s easy to cherry-pick, but harder to argue with consistent, principled governance.
Rep. Lori McCann has earned the trust of her constituents and has made good choices for Idaho. She deserves our appreciation for continuing to stand up for our children, our teachers, and the future of Idaho.
