Idaho Falls teacher selected for national STEM fellowship
Natalie Woods, a math teacher at Thunder Ridge High School in Idaho Falls, was selected as a member of a national educator fellowship program.
Woods and 14 other K-12 science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) educators will spend 11 months working with the federal government to inform education programs or policy efforts, according to a press release from the Idaho Department of Education.
“I will be participating in professional development with national organizations and agencies aligned to the Department of Defense STEM, engaging with leaders across government, industry and academia,” said Woods. “Across these efforts, my goal will be to translate cutting-edge defense technologies into standards-aligned learning experiences that inspire and prepare Idaho’s next generation of scientists and engineers.”
Win a truck by donating to the Idaho Playground Project
With donations starting at $50, Idahoans can enter to win a new Ford F-150 in a raffle.
Proceeds support the Idaho Playground Project, a nonprofit which aims to provide equal-access playgrounds for children with varied abilities.
The Great Potato Days Ford Truck Giveaway runs until Sunday, Sept. 21, when the raffle will draw a winner at Julius M. Kleiner Memorial Park in Meridian.
CTE grant applications open
Local education agencies can apply for grants of up to $50,000 to fund career technical education (CTE) efforts following a vote by the Idaho Career Ready Students council.
ICRS grants are designed to reduce reliance on federal funds for CTE programming.
“This program has already done so much for our students by connecting them to learning that interests them and gives them a jumpstart on their futures,” said Superintendent of Public Instruction Debbie Critchfield. “Our students deserve preparation for life beyond our classroom walls, and these grants open those doors for them.”
The application period opens today and closes October 17 at 6:00 p.m. Districts and charters can apply here.
