Idaho Educational Services for the Deaf and the Blind seeks new administrator
The Idaho Educational Services for the Deaf and the Blind (IESDB) is seeking a new administrator to lead educational efforts for deaf and blind individuals across the state.
The Idaho Department of Education announced Wednesday that longtime IESDB Administrator Brian Darcy accepted a new role as executive director of the New York Institute for Special Education.
IESDB provides statewide services for students with vision and hearing loss, including those with co-occurring conditions. The administrator also leads the Idaho School for the Deaf and Blind, a residential campus in Gooding, which opened in 1906 and serves pre-K through 12th grade students.
In a news release, state superintendent Debbie Critchfield noted that only nine states provide services for both visual and hearing impaired students, “making this role a rare opportunity, both in the state and nationwide.”
The position requires on-campus living in a school-provided home at no additional cost to the administrator, the release said. Candidates should have a master’s degree in special education, administration and supervision or closely related field, as well as proven leadership abilities and at least five years of experience in personnel or program management in a setting for deaf or blind individuals. Preferred skills include sign abilities or the willingness to learn.
