Boise State University is considering a “potential rename” of West Cesar Chavez Lane, a campus along the Boise River.
Thursday’s announcement came eight days after the New York Times published an investigation linking the civil rights and labor union figure to a pattern of sexual abuse.
“In response to these allegations, university leadership will seek input from the campus community regarding a potential name change,” university administration said in a campus-wide email Thursday morning.
The email spells out no specific timetable, but says it could take months to survey staff and faculty, gather input from students and receive city and county approval for a new name.
In 2006, Boise State renamed Campus Lane as West Cesar Chavez Lane, after gathering input from students, faculty and staff.
“In consideration of that history, the university is committed to gathering campus feedback before making any determination on a name change,” Boise State said in its Thursday email.
