Rep. Lance Clow, a former House Education Committee chairman, will step down from the Legislature on Nov. 30.

The Twin Falls Republican submitted his resignation Wednesday, and announced his decision on his campaign Facebook page.  (The Gem State Chronicle also wrote about Clow’s resignation Thursday.)

“I believe this is the appropriate time to conclude my service as an elected official,” Clow said in his announcement. “Since 1993, I have appeared on the ballot 19 times.”

Clow said he had already privately decided not to run for an eighth House term in 2026. He said he decided to step aside early for several reasons.

Clow, who will turn 78 next month, said he has “begun to experience some health limitations” that affect his ability to serve. He said he would like to spend his time pursuing “personal goals and family commitments.” He also said he did not want to serve as a lame duck lawmaker next session.

It will now be up to legislative District 25 Republicans to submit three nominees to serve out the remainder of Clow’s term. Gov. Brad Little will choose a successor.

A former Twin Falls mayor and City Council member, Clow was first elected to the Legislature in 2012. Clow chaired House Education from 2018 to 2022, before House GOP leadership shifted him to the House Business Committee chairman’s spot. He continued to serve on House Education from 2023 to 2025.
