A new director of Indian Education was quietly hired last fall, but has already parted with the Idaho Department of Education, records show.
Jennifer Stadum was the director from Nov. 25, 2024 to Feb. 10, 2025, according to Scott Graf, the IDE communications director. Graf did not provide information on the nature of the departure.
In the past, the IDE has announced director-level hirings via news releases, but that practice has changed, said Maggie Reynolds, an IDE public information officer.
“Discussions around the appropriate department policy re: announcing HR-related matters are ongoing,” Graf wrote in an email.
Graf declined to provide information about Stadum’s work experience and background.
However, a LinkedIn profile with the name Jennifer Stadum lists experience as an Indian Education for All Specialist for the Montana Office of Public Instruction.
The IDE is “currently assessing next steps” to replace Stadum “and remains in communication with the tribes,” Graf wrote.
Stadum’s short tenure follows the controversial firing of Johanna Jones, the state’s former longtime Indian Education coordinator.
The IDE has since elevated the coordinator position to a director position, and is seeking legislative approval for a second Indian Education staff member.
