Idaho Education News welcomes Devin Bodkin to its staff this week.
Bodkin returns to the newsroom from the Idaho National Laboratory, where he worked for the past three years as a corporate editor and communications strategist. He was an EdNews reporter, blogger and assistant editor prior to working at the laboratory. Bodkin previously was an English teacher at Blackfoot High School in eastern Idaho.

Bodkin has been promoted to assistant managing editor where he will edit and lead projects, including EdNews’ 2026 election coverage.
Bodkin is a lifelong Idahoan and will work from Blackfoot, where he lives with his wife and six children – three of whom attend public schools. He holds a master’s degree in public administration and a bachelor’s degree in English from Idaho State University.
“He’s the perfect addition to EdNews because he was educated in Idaho public schools and his children are enrolled in Idaho public schools and he taught in Idaho public schools,” Swindell said. “And he’s an extremely talented journalist.”
He’s reviving his popular blog, a Dad’s Diary, where he shares his perspectives as a parent of six children who are active in public schools and their activities. (His daughter recently won a district basketball title led by coach and mom Nicki Bodkin).
“I’m excited to watch EdNews elevate to a higher level of excellence under his added leadership,” said Swindell. “Plus, he’s great fun to work with.”
Bodkin looks forward to contributing to EdNews in hopes of empowering parents, educators and voters with knowledge.
“I’m thrilled to be back and to help EdNews continue to produce important content for Idahoans,” said Bodkin. “Education remains an important issue in the state and nationally. Accurate, fair reporting is essential for patrons and decision makers here.”
