Gov. Brad Little Tuesday appointed Annie Henderson Haws, a Boise Democrat and attorney, to a vacant seat in the Idaho House.

Henderson Haws is an attorney at Holland & Hart specializing in business, environmental and employment litigation. She previously clerked for two federal judges and served as lead counsel for Idahoans United for Women and Families, according to a news release from the Idaho Democratic Party. She’s also an adjunct professor at the University of Idaho College of Law.

“We need to work with our peers in the Legislature to focus on what really matters,” Henderson Haws said in the news release. “That means investing fully in our kids, supporting working people, and protecting the Idaho we believe in, not the one being shaped by special interests.”

Henderson Haws replaces former Rep. Todd Achilles, who recently announced he’s running for U.S. Senate as an independent. Henderson Haws was appointed to serve the remainder of Achilles’ term, which ends in December of 2026.

Henderson Haws brings to the Legislature a “deep commitment to public service,” the news release said. In her legal career, she has protected tribal land from environmental degradation, fought political extremism and ensured Idaho citizens have a “robust and meaningful” right to pass legislation through ballot initiatives, the release said.

“She’s grounded in her community, driven by purpose, and brings real legal and policy expertise to the table,” said House Minority Leader Ilana Rubel, D-Boise. “She’s a strong addition to the Democratic caucus and a powerful advocate for working families.”

Henderson Haws will represent District 16, which covers Boise’s West Bench and Collister neighborhoods along with Garden City.
