For the second time in less than a year, Idaho State University has signed a formal agreement with a private medical school.

Under the agreement, Idaho State faculty would receive affiliate faculty status at the Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine for research purposes. ICOM faculty would receive similar status from Idaho State.

“(This agreement) lays the foundation for a dynamic partnership between Idaho College of Osteopathic Medicine and Idaho State University — one that will foster innovative, collaborative research and open new avenues for securing external funding,” said Sara Adams, ICOM’s assistant dean of research.

“(We) will be able to conduct research that solves real-world problems to promote better health in our communities, and sharing faculty expertise across our institutions will help us tackle the demands of our state’s health care needs,” Idaho State President Robert Wagner said.

Idaho State and ICOM signed the agreement Friday morning during a ceremony at Idaho State’s Meridian campus.

Located next to Idaho State’s Meridian campus, ICOM has been affiliated with Idaho State since its opening in 2016. The schools already offer several joint degrees. And as Idaho Education News reported in November, Idaho State is exploring the feasibility of acquiring ICOM.
