Idaho State athletic director placed on administrative leave

It’s unclear why Idaho State University athletic director Jeff Tingey was abruptly placed on administrative leave Friday.

But it is clear Tingey will continue to receive his $150,467-a-year salary while on leave.

Tingey was placed on leave at about 5 p.m. Friday, the Idaho State Journal reported.

“During the course of an operational review of the Idaho State Athletic Department, President Kevin Satterlee felt that it was in the best interest of the university to place Tingey on administrative leave,” according to an ISU news release quoted by the Journal. “The university will announce an interim athletic director soon.”

Tingey will remain on the payroll until his contract expires in June, the Journal reported.

The shakeup comes just two months after Satterlee took over as ISU’s president.

And it leaves two Idaho athletic departments in flux. The State Board of Education fired University of Idaho athletic director Rob Spear, after an investigation found he failed to properly report sexual assault allegations involving student athletes. The board said Spear was fired “for convenience,” so he will continue to collect his $196,958-a-year salary into 2020.
