Democrats pushing for turnout in May elections, including school measures

The May 20 election is nonpartisan.

But Idaho Democrats are trying to get out the vote.

In an email appeal Tuesday, party leadership called next month’s elections “a turning point for our communities.” In addition to elections for nonpartisan posts such as library boards, 27 school districts are seeking a total of $223.6 million in bonds and levies.

Without elaborating, Democratic Party political director Anthony Porto said “extremist groups” in many communities are trying to block funding for schools, libraries and other local services.

“When we vote, we build stronger schools, healthier hospitals, safer communities, and better opportunities for every Idaho family,” Porto wrote. “That’s the Idaho we believe in and it’s within our reach if we show up.”
