Who’s in? Tracking the 2018 candidate filings

(UPDATED: Friday, March 9, 6:45 p.m.)

Idaho’s campaign filing period ended at 5 p.m., with a few Friday afternoon surprises.

Among the comings and goings:

  • Boise Republican Julie Ellsworth, a former member of Idaho House GOP leadership, jumped into the open race for state treasurer.
  • The already crowded GOP race for lieutenant governor has a sixth candidate, Rebecca Arnold of Boise, an Ada County Highway District commissioner.
  • Several prominent legislators drew last-minute opponents, including state Rep. Wendy Horman, R-Idaho Falls, and House Minority Leader Mat Erpelding, D-Boise.
  • Former House Minority Leader John Rusche will take on Rep. Mike Kingsley, R-Lewiston. Kingsley ousted Rusche in 2016, after Rusche narrowly won re-election in 2014.
  • State Rep. Hy Kloc, D-Boise, said he will not seek re-election, citing health issues. The prominent pre-K advocate has been absent through much of the 2018 session. Five Democrats and a Republican have filed for his legislative seat.

Here’s our updated list of filings for state and congressional offices, and key legislative seats.
