Lakeland School Board’s newest trustee was sworn in Wednesday night, with his fellow trustees taking the oath alongside him.

Jeffery Brodhead, a Washington transplant and businessman, was election in November. Trustee David Quimby won a second term this fall as well. Both trustees voted to keep leadership on the school board the same after their swearing in.

Newly elected Lakeland Trustee Jeff Brodhead (left) stands to take the oath of office alongside his fellow trustees.

The school district has gone through a rollercoaster over the last few years, with two failed supplemental levies, near total turnover in district leadership, and community criticism that the school board micromanages district operations.

The annual reorganization portion of Wednesday’s meeting moved quickly with little discussion of who would continue to lead the board.

Trustee Randi Bain nominated herself to be chair and when that nomination failed, vice chair.

She lost both votes 4-1.

All four of the other trustees backed a continuation of the status quo with Michelle Thompson continuing as chair and Ramona Grissom continuing as vice chair.

The board is scheduled to meet the third Wednesday of the month at 6 p.m. at the Lakeland School District Office. A second meeting is set for the first Wednesday of the month as needed.
