SDE joins forces with the military for new career day event

State Department of Education officials are partnering with the Idaho Military Division to offer a career day for educators Friday.

Opening ceremonies are set to kick off at 8 a.m. at Gowen Field in Boise, according to an SDE news release.

The new event is designed to give educators a chance to learn about military career and training opportunities, benefits and more.

As part of Educator Day, teachers will learn about the STARBASE STEM program, the Idaho Youth Challenge Academy, Idaho National Guard family programs and recruiting and retention programs.

Educators will also check out various simulators, vehicles and aircraft used by the Idaho National Guard, including an A-10 Thunderbolt II, a UH-60 Black Hawk and an M1 Abrams Tank.

Both Superintendent of Public Instruction Sherri Ybarra and Major General Michael J. Garshak are scheduled to participate in the opening ceremonies.
