Buhl promotes principal to superintendent

Elementary principal Ron Anthony will replace Byron Stutsman as superintentdent of the Buhl School District. Stutsman resigned to take a similar position in Wyoming. Anthony has been the principal at Buhl’s Popplewell Elementary for five years.

“I’m anxious, excited, nervous,” Anthony said. “Byron left us in a good position so I’m confident we’ll be able to continue.”

Popplewell Elementary was a year away from being restructured by the state when Anthony took over. Today, it’s rated a 4-Star school on a 1-5 rating system. Buhl Middle and Buhl High also are 4-Star schools, completing a recent academic turnaround in Buhl. (Click here to see star ratings for every school in Idaho.)

“We’re here to continue doing great things,” Anthony said.

Anthony graduated from Eastern Oregon in La Grande, Ore., and earned his masters at Northwest Nazarene University. He taught math and coached sports in Oregon for 15 years before moving to teach in Orofino for two years. His next move was to Buhl.
