The West Ada School District has hired a veteran broadcast journalist to head its communications team.
Trustees voted unanimously Monday to hire Michelle Edmonds as chief communications officer. Her first day with the district will be Monday.

Edmonds has more than two decades of communications experience, including 18 years as evening anchor at KIVI-TV and KNIN-TV.
“Michelle is a highly respected public figure across Southwest Idaho, known for her wealth of media experience and her authentic connection to the community,” Superintendent Derek Bub said in a news release. “She believes in our mission, brings credibility and energy to the role, and we’re thrilled to welcome her to the team.”
“I stepped away from journalism a few years ago to focus on my family — and it was the best decision I’ve ever made,” Edmonds said. “Now that my children are in college, this opportunity allows me to come full circle.”
Edmonds will oversee internal and external communications for the state’s largest school district. “She will also play a critical role in strengthening community engagement and public trust,” according to West Ada’s news release, issued Tuesday.
During her time at KIVI and KNIN, Edmonds hosted a weekly segment on education, called “Making the Grade.” (Idaho EdNews reporter Kevin Richert was a regular guest on the segment, and EdNews and KIVI partnered on other education reports.)
