Two new ways to watch for us

With the 2014 legislative session about to get under way, here’s a quick update on two new ways to stay current on education and political news:

KIVI interview
Talking Common Core assessments with KIVI anchor Michelle Edmonds.

A partnership with KIVI and KNIN. I’ll be collaborating throughout the legislative session and the upcoming election season with Journal Broadcast Group. In the Treasure Valley, Journal Broadcast Group produces the news for KIVI, Today’s Channel 6 News, and KNIN, Fox 9 News.

Our plans include a weekly segment on Wednesdays, during the KNIN 9 p.m. newscast and possibly the KIVI 10 p.m. newscast as well. Each week, we will focus on an education topic — or a political story that affects education in Idaho. We’ll also collaborate on other segments as news breaks; for example, I’ll be on Monday night to talk about Gov. Butch Otter’s state of the state address and the launch of the 2014 session.

We’re also looking at producing additional segments during the election season. More details to follow.

The Idaho Statesman’s Idaho Politics app. The Statesman’s new smartphone and tablet app is a good one-stop shop for the latest Statehouse news.

The app will include links to the Statesman’s coverage and blogs, and also links to other political coverage: Idaho Education News, Idaho Reports, the Associated Press, the Spokane Spokesman-Review, the Times-News and the Lewiston Tribune. You can also get your local legislator’s email address and phone number, and keep tabs on committee schedules and votes.

Just search for Idaho Politics on your device’s app store.
