For the Meridian School District, cell phone towers are a money-maker — worth $180,000 a year, as Katy Moeller of the Idaho Statesman reported this week.

But the towers are often unpopular with neighbors, which is why one proposed cell tower in Eagle is on hold.

The 100-foot-tall tower is proposed for Eagle Hills Elementary School. Since the tower would go in on school property, the Meridian School District would receive a one-time fee of $30,000.

But amidst public opposition, the applicant, FlatCo Telecommunications Services, has asked the Eagle Planning and Zoning Commission to put the proposal on hold. It could come up in October, or possibly sooner.
