Meridian may acquire arts academy

The Meridian School District may acquire a private arts school in Eagle.

The Fresco Arts Academy has 119 junior high school and high school students, but the district is looking at adding the school to its roster of magnet schools, the Idaho Statesman reported Friday. The takeover still requires School Board approval.

The seven-year-old school charges $8,000 a year in tuition, but has faced ongoing financial challenges, the Statesman reported. Meanwhile, Superintendent Linda Clark told the Statesman that the district has a plan for covering Fresco’s costs. The district would shift some money within its budget and rely on a boost in state revenue; if the district acquires Fresco, it would also receive state dollars that reflect the influx in enrollment.
