Horseshoe Bend school official named to county commission

A Horseshoe Bend School District official was named to an open seat on the Boise County Commission Wednesday.

Laura Baker — the district’s clerk, treasurer and business manager — will complete a commission term that ends in January 2017. Gov. Butch Otter made the appointment Wednesday, choosing from three nominations from the Boise County Republican Central Committee.

“Geography and history can make Boise County a challenging place to be a local leader, but I am confident in Laura’s ability and her commitment to public service,” Otter said in a news release.

Baker succeeds Vicki Wilkins; according to the Idaho Statesman, Wilkins resigned abruptly in May after seeking a forensic audit of county finances.
