Conventional wisdom: a reading roundup

As the dustup over the state Republican Party convention continues, Idaho Democrats will launch their convention this morning in Moscow.

Here are a few links to get you current:

GOP. The Republican Party Rules Committee said Thursday that embattled state chairman Barry Peterson of Mountain Home remains at the helm. In essence, the Rules Committee says that when the convention broke up Saturday without a vote on leadership, this effectively kept Peterson in the chairmanship. A GOP executive committee thinks otherwise, and on Wednesday, this committee elected a slate of officers but no new chairman.

Here’s an Idaho Statesman story from Thursday’s Rules Committee meeting. Here’s a story from the Statesman’s Dan Popkey on Wednesday’s executive committee meeting.

Democrats. Does the Republican convention conflagration open the door to Democrats, who haven’t won a statewide office since 2002? “(Democrats) were given an incredible gift,” Boise State University professor emeritus Jim Weatherby said this week. “The question is, can they take advantage of it?”

Here’s a link to my preview of the Democratic convention. Here’s a link to Popkey’s advance as well.

Stay up to date. I’m at Moscow this weekend to cover the Democratic convention. Check back for stories throughout the weekend, and follow @idahoednews on Twitter for live tweets from the convention.
