Remember the Jerome High School prom controversy from a few days back — when some parents and school administrators complained to the Twin Falls Times-News that a shot glass wasn’t an appropriate souvenir?
At the time, administrators minced no words about the shot glasses, suggesting students changed the order for the souvenirs without adults knowing. Students and other parents said the shot glasses were filled, innocuously, with candy.
In a guest opinion in today’s Times-News, the organizer of the prom gets her say.
Here’s an excerpt from Sammantha Gulliford’s guest opinion:
“I ran for junior class president out of choice and to make this school actually have an amazing prom for once.
“I have to say with this article and the way it was portrayed makes a part of me never want to run for student council again. It shows that all the work we did wasn’t appreciated. …
“So thank you for taking away the joy I had in planning, what I thought, was one amazing prom. Thank you for never asking me if I ever needed help. Thank you for making me feel more stressed about a harmless glass than actually planning prom.”
