Coeur d’Alene seeks $15 million-a-year levy

The Coeur d’Alene School District will ask voters to approve an increased supplemental levy.

Trustees set the two-year, $30 million figure during their Monday night meeting.

This would represent a significant increase from the district’s current levy, which is bringing in $12.4 million for 2014-15. It also could represent the largest supplemental levy in the state. In 2014-15, only the Boise School District collected more money in supplemental levies — a series of levies totaling $17.2 million.

The size of the levy sparked some debate Monday night, according to the Spokane Spokesman-Review. Trustee Terri Seymour voted no, saying the district should hold the line. Trustee Tom Hearn said he favored a larger levy, but supported the $15 million-a-year proposal. (Here’s more from the meeting from the Coeur d’Alene Press.)

Voters will decide on the levy on March 10; it will need a simple majority to pass.
