As the governor’s race turns …

A quick catchup on one of the possible players in the governor’s race.

Former Canyon County Prosecutor John Bujak can again practice law in Idaho. The Idaho Supreme Court reinstated his license last week.

Bujak surrendered his license as he fought a felony charge of misuse of public funds. A jury acquitted Bujak in 2012, although he pleaded guilty to a contempt of court charge.

“The reinstatement of my license to practice law marks the end of a three-year battle to get my life back,” Bujak told the Idaho Press-Tribune. “I am thankful for the support of people in the local community and throughout the state, including those who signed my petitions. I am thankful for our American system of justice and for the people who served on my juries.”

Bujak is considering running for governor as an independent.

Incumbent Gov. Butch Otter has said he plans to seek a third term; perennial candidate Harley Brown says he will oppose Otter in the GOP primary. Longtime Boise School Board member AJ Balukoff has said he is considering a run on the Democratic ticket.
