In an attempt to serve nontraditional students and Hispanic students, the College of Southern Idaho is looking to work weekends.

The “Weekend College Plus” program will allow students to take some classes on Fridays and Saturdays, Julie Wootton-Greener of the Twin Falls Times-News reported Monday. However, students would still have to take some weeknight classes, or hybrid or online courses to round out their degree work.

“We want to allow them to complete a degree with that ‘plus’ piece,” CSI dean of student success John Hughes told Wootton-Greener.

It’s unclear when the weekend program would begin. Hughes told Wootton-Greener that the program could begin by summer, but said that target date could be optimistic.

CSI will use a federal grant to fund the weekend program, Wootton-Greener reported, after failing to get state funding for a program line item.
