Nearly 170 Treasure Valley high school students broke a Guinness world record for the largest mural constructed out of 313,974 Post-it notes on Saturday. The 20,000-square-foot basketball courts at the Homecourt YMCA in Meridian were filled with Post-It notes.
The teens of One Stone, a student-run service organization, are promoting the message of student voice by creating a mosaic mural that displays One Stone’s motto, “Disrupt for good.”
“One Stone wants students to feel like they have a voice and make a difference,” said Carly Liebich, a senior at Riverstone International School.
Students laid out Post-it notes on the basketball court on Saturday. A Guinness world record official judged the results on Sunday.
“When we all contribute we can disrupt for good; making positive and lasting changes in people’s lives,” Liebich said.
The mural will be disassembled and redistributed through a kindness campaign. Students will receive mural sticky notes and be asked to redistribute them with messages promoting kindness, connection and gratitude.
“Us (students) don’t get much of a say and it’s cool to be apart of this world record and accomplish a goal,” said Aisha Abimbola, a junior at Capital High School.
