West Ada bond issue won’t come soon

Theoretically, the West Ada School District could have come back to voters in November with another building bond issue.

The deadline has come and gone to file paperwork to place another bond issue on the Nov. 4 ballot. So now, the state’s largest school district is looking at a March election date, district spokesman Eric Exline told Meridian Press’ Holly Beech.

The $104 million bond issue received 63 percent backing on Aug. 26 — but that fell short of the two-thirds supermajority required to pass a bond issue.

The first $60 million would have been spent to build two new middle schools to alleviate overcrowding. The rest of the money would have gone to complete a remodel and expansion at Meridian High School, build a new elementary school and acquire land for new school sites.
