Idaho Arts Charter elementary students are joining forces with Elton John, Julia Roberts, Will Ferrell and Ellen DeGeneres for the second annual “Red Nose Day Special” on Thursday.

Students and staff raised $2,240 to help children in poverty, beating last year’s amount of $700.

“Being an arts school this is such a great cause because it involves humor, making people laugh and theatre,” said Brecca Chabot-Olson, a teacher at Idaho Arts Charter School.

The money raised for Red Nose Day will support poverty-focused charities working both in the United States and around the world.

Red Nose Day has raised more than $1 billion globally in the last 25 years. The event has been a fundraising phenomenon in the United Kingdom for more than 30 years, but 2015 was the first year the charitable event was celebrated in the United States.

On Thursday night, May 26, at 7 p.m., NBC will air a two-hour special featuring some of the biggest stars of comedy, film and music who will talk about the importance of Red Nose Day in America.
