Governor awards 38 college scholarships

Governor Cup
The winners of the 2015 Governor’s Cup Scholarship.

Thirty-eight high school students headed to an Idaho institute of high education were awarded Governor’s Cup scholarships on Monday. The students were chosen from 700 applicants by the Idaho Governor’s Cup Scholarship Funds’ board of directors. Selections were made based on each students commitment to public service, academic achievement and community involvement. The award is $3,000 per year, which is renewable for up to four years.

“If there are two things we can never get enough of – but already have in abundance – it’s talented, committed young people and generous citizens eager to help them achieve their dreams,” Gov. Butch Otter said. “I’m overjoyed to be able to reward these students with a hand up toward reaching their higher education goals.”

Due to strong fundraising efforts, 15 more scholarships were given out this year compared to last year.
